# Team Analytics through Peer Review

> This new approach divides skills into domains (skill areas) and specific actions, proving especially effective for action-oriented, non-technical skills.

<Info>
  Only an admin or manager can publish or close surveys, or view survey reports.
</Info>

## Overview of Peer Review

Traditional skill proficiency systems are too subjective and limited. The new approach separates a skill into Domains(**Skills**) and **Action tags**, making it particularly effective for non-technical skills that are action-oriented. There are two major experiences with Peer Review.

**Issue a survey to tag actions**

In Peer Review, reviewers mark reviewee's Action tags as endorsements.

**View report**

From this endorsements and the attributes, the depth and versatility of the Participant's skills are calculated, which can ultimately be utilized for team analytics as reports.

## Publishing a Survey

<Steps>
  <Step title="Create Peer Review Survey">
    Select the **Peer Review** tab from **Skills Hub** in the upper left of the dashboard.

    <Warning>
      Self Review should be selected by default.
    </Warning>

    Select the leftmost card to begin creating a Peer-review Survey.

  </Step>

  <Step title="Upload your Survey">
    Templates can also be downloaded from the UI. The upload file must be a CSV or a single-sheet .xlsx file.

    <Tip>
      If you find it difficult to create skill templates, our [best practices](/en/best-practices/anti-patterns#unable-to-properly-define-the-scope-of-skills) might be helpful. The key to Peer Review is not to review a large number of skills, but to conduct surveys with a focus on skills that are essential for strategy execution (That's should be **Team Requirements**).
    </Tip>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the name of participants">
    In this part, you assign the participants to the survey as both Reviewee and Reviewer in the same time. If you want to define their roles separately, please refer to [this section](/en/skills-hub/peer-review#adding-more-participants).
    Be careful not to let the member count get too large here as well. If you forgot to add any reviewees, don’t worry. You can include them in the survey later.

    Once you have added all participants, click Next to finish.

    <Check>
      The created Survey should be listed with Draft status.
    </Check>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Publish a Survey">
    When you click on the created Survey, you can verify that the loaded template has been mapped correctly. Let’s check if the Survey has the expected structure. Above the description, you’ll find the Action tags. This enables the new skill measurement system to function.

## Managing a Published Survey

### Adding more participants

If there are any reviewees you'd like to add, you can include them in the survey via **Participants** tab > **Add**.
Unlike when creating a Peer Review, you add the Reviewer and the Reviewee separately in this section. If you want to assign participants to both, you have to add them to the Reviewer and the Reviewee respectively.

### Sharing your Survey

You can invite coworkers through **Share** to review responses together. Shared users will be able to view the responses and report.

## Closing a Survey

When you have received sufficient responses, or when you want to publish an updated new Survey, you should close the current Survey. End the Survey by clicking **Close** in the top left of the selected Survey. Unlike Self Review, you must close the Survey to view the results report in Peer Review.

Figures 1, 2, and 3 are for understanding peer characteristics and developing strategy. You can establish general directions without time-consuming analysis, such as leveraging team strengths for major initiatives, strengthening versatility to reinforce core business foundations, or planning to acquire missing capabilities of new challenges.

Figure 4 breaks down the metrics from Figure 3 at an individual level. You can gain deep insights into members' character, expertise, and work preferences. These deep insights into team members help you show them promising career paths and make enjoyable work assignments, which ultimately leads to increased engagement with both the team and work. Of course, This directly impacts team performance.

Zipteam has two metrics to visualize this:

* **Proficiency Level**: A score that indicates how rare and difficult jobs one can handle, calculated from the difficulty attributes of Action tags.
* **Versatility Score**: A score that shows how broad a range of jobs one can handle, calculated from the number of tags.

Action tags record who reported them. It is designed to make it immediately apparent even when endorsements from non-experts are included accidentaly.
